Zimbabwe: JA Solar signs supply agreement for 100MW project

Issue 314 - 17 Dec 2015 | 4 minute read

China’s Nasdaq-listed JA Solar has signed a $179m contract to supply 100MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to Number 17 Metallurgical China, one of three successful bidders in a tender dominated by Chinese companies earlier this year. The plant will be based in Munyati, and construction is expected to begin towards the end of 2016 or early 2017, with commercial operation by end-2017. A number of other solar power projects have been taken through the early stages of development by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and an initiative to develop small mini-hydro projects of less than 4MW is going well.
