Violence has significantly increased since former president Ali Abdullah Saleh’s death on 4 December. The Yemen Data Project reported a 67% increase in bombing sorties by the Saudi-led coalition in the weeks following the assassination. UN humanitarian co-ordinator Jamie McGoldrick said raids caused 109 civilian deaths in a ten-day period in December. Coupled with increasing fears of famine, with over 8m civilians reportedly on the brink, the coalition is facing significant political pressure to suspend or reduce its military operations.
