Yemen: Coalition at odds over strategy

| 1 minute read
Saudi Arabia and the UAE appear in dispute over the best way forward in Yemen. The withdrawal of UAE troops from Mareb and Taiz, and a move to solidify their position in the southern provinces, has obstructed a renewed push on Houthis and forces loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. Tribal elements under Hashem Bin Abdullah Al-Ahmar, the Al-Islah party and Vice President Ali Muhsin Al-Ahmar have failed to advance on the capital over the past six months. Clashes are now concentrated around the Serwah area of Mareb, a Salafist stronghold.
