Yemen: Ceasefire agreed, war comes to Socotra

A ceasefire was agreed on 1 May, but even so a standoff continues on the island of Socotra following clashes between forces that support the secessionist UAE-backed Southern Transition Council (STC) and troops loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi’s Saudi-backed government. According to Socotra governor Ramzi Mahrou, the ceasefire is supposed to leave the island’s capital, Hadibu, in the hands of government forces.
