World Bank considers wide-ranging grid project

The World Bank board is to decide in June on financing for a $70m project to increase access to electricity. The Rwanda Electricity Access Scale-up and SWAp (sector-wide approach) Development Project will help launch a national electricity access programme and to meet the government’s target of tripling access to electricity by 2012 to about 16% of households and at least 50% of identified public institutions in health, education and local administration.
