US seeks to reassure GCC after Iran framework deal

After talks which extended long past the 31 March deadline, Iran and the countries of the P5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the UK and the US) said on 2 April they had reached a framework nuclear agreement, to be fleshed out by 30 June. In a joint statement in Lausanne, European Union high representative Federica Mogherini and Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that the session of talks which began on 26 March had resulted in a “decisive step”, reaching solutions on what they called “key parameters of a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action”.
