US opposition to arms sales increases with Qatar crisis

Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) states have been criticised by an influential Republican senator as a result of the dispute between Qatar and its three erstwhile allies: Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain. In a letter to secretary of state Rex Tillerson on 26 June, Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Bob Corker called for a halt to further US arms sales until the dispute is at least on the way to being resolved.
