US Presidency: Gulf looks for silver linings

After all the campaign bluster, the Donald Trump administration is finally installed in the White House. The opening days of his presidency, which formally began on 20 January, appear to confirm the worst fears of many, in that he will govern in the same way that he campaigned with a mixture of boasting, bullying and bravado while ignoring uncomfortable facts or complexities. Gulf governments have generally reacted positively to the new dawn in the United States. This is in part out of keenness to develop cordial relations with the new administration – successful dealings with the US are likely to pivot on strong personal links with Trump and his inner circle more than has been the case with past presidents.
