UAE: Ties with Washington show some signs of strain

The failure of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan to make it to Washington for a planned meeting with President Donald Trump on 27 March has been seen as an indication that MBZ wanted to have the last word with Trump, following the president’s meetings with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman on 20 March and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad on 10 April. However, other factors are playing into the US-UAE relationship, which is arguably in a more delicate state that it has been for some time.
