UAE: Social media influence campaign revealed

Revelations by Bellingcat, the Atlantic Council’s DFRLab and other investigative groups show how the UAE and Saudi governments have been using social media channels to influence regional opinion. The revelations have been followed by Facebook deleting hundreds of accounts and pages on its social network, which it said were “engaging in co-ordinated inauthentic behaviour”. DFRLabs has linked the UAE campaign to New Waves, a social media marketing firm apparently headed by Amr Hussein, an Egyptian citizen; its offices are in the government-owned TwoFour54 Media Zone in Abu Dhabi.
