UAE: Sharjah deputy ruler dies in London

Long-serving deputy ruler Sheikh Ahmed Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Bin Khalid Bin Sultan Al-Qasimi died in London on 9 July. No cause of death has been announced. There was to be three days of official mourning in Sharjah with flags flown at half-mast following the return of his body. Sheikh Ahmed was born in 1948 and was a son of former ruler Sheikh Sultan Bin Saqr (ruled 1924-51). Ahmed’s brother Saqr Bin Sultan then ruled from 1951 to 1965, after which power passed to the sons of Sultan’s brother Mohammed.
