UAE: RAK boosts tourist numbers

Ras Al-Khaimah has been actively marketing its delights with a reinvigorated marketing campaign, but the emirate also appears to be benefiting from the political instability in key Middle East and North Africa tourism markets, such as Egypt and Tunisia. This is reflected in a sharp rise in visitor numbers so far this year. RAK Tourism Development Authority chief executive Haitham Mattar said visitor numbers in the opening months of 2016 were up 6% year-on-year, twice the regional average of 3% and substantially ahead of the 4% global average.
