UAE: First solar-powered flight

Abu Dhabi plans to host the start and finish of the first solar-powered flight around the world, in March 2015. This latest attempt to enter the record books was announced during a UAE reception on 25 September, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly; Swiss pilots Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg and their team will be hosted by Masdar for two months from January as they prepare for the flight on Solar Impulse 2. Piccard and Borschberg, will take turns to fly the aircraft, which completed its first test flight in June. They will have six oxygen bottles, a parachute, a life raft, and food and water for a week.
