UAE: Dubai sheikha’s $300m ‘ransom demand’

A controversial meeting in Dubai in December between former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Irish president Mary Robinson and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum’s errant daughter Sheikha Latifa – who was captured in March 2018 while trying to flee – has thrown up more questions than answers. In a subsequent interview with BBC radio, Robinson, now a senior member of the Elders group, closely followed Dubai’s preferred line, calling Latifa “vulnerable” and “troubled”.
