UAE: Dubai media wary of the Q word

Foreign-owned business publications in Dubai have become wary about mentioning Qatar after coming under pressure from the authorities. Some are downplaying their coverage over the emirate following the boycott ordered by the ‘GCC-3’ in June 2017 and some have halted it altogether. Behind-the-scenes pressure on the city’s business media is nothing new, but the extent of the ‘voluntary censorship’ now under way is unusual.The venerable Middle East Economic Digest (MEED) in early 2018 stopped using the words ‘Doha’ or ‘Qatar’ in the headlines of stories about the country.
