UAE: Deal-making influences Libyan oil and politics

Official and commercial support from the UAE for Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni’s Tobruk, Cyrenaica-based government has become an increasingly dominant factor in Libya’s complex internal conflicts. Investigations by GSN’s sister publication African Energy have shown that attempts by Thinni’s administration to wrest control of oil exports and revenues from established Tripoli-based institutions are centred on opaque deal-making in Dubai – where several leading politicians from eastern Libya are based.
