UAE: Conscripts to serve extended duty report for training

The tenth batch of recruits for the UAE’s national service reported for the start of training in August, becoming the first to serve the recently-extended period of conscription. One group seen at a barracks in Al-Ain in mid-August did not appear to share the enthusiasm with which Abu Dhabi Executive Council deputy chairman Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan claimed Emirati youth had greeted the news in July that national service was to run for 16 months rather than one year.
