A 2015 deal by Sheikh Ahmed Bin Dalmook Al-Maktoum’s Africa Middle East Resources Investment (Ameri) Group to develop a 250MW gas power plant in Ghana has become mired in controversy in Accra. This follows a series of articles in Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang (VG), which claim that Ameri’s chief executive at the time of the deal was a Pakistani Norwegian called Umar Farooq Zahoor, who is wanted by Norwegian and Swiss police in connection with multi-million dollar fraud cases. VG has followed Zahoor’s career for many years; he left Ameri in July 2015.
