UAE: Abu Dhabi and Russia draw closer over Yemen, Libya

Abu Dhabi is emerging as a significant conduit for the expansion of Russian influence in the region. Key areas of security co-operation include Egypt, Libya and Yemen, while the UAE is also co-developing a new jet fighter with Russia. On 20 April, a high-level UAE delegation, led by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan (MBZ), visited Moscow where Russian engagement in Yemen was discussed. Accompanying MBZ were foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, national security advisor Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and other allies.
