Turkey heads the list of Iraq donors, strengthening complex ties

In a significant twist, Turkey made the largest pledge at the Kuwait International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq, with a commitment of $5bn announced by foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. That in turn has raised questions about President Recep Tayipp Erdogan’s Iraq policy – in recent years Ankara has built a close relationship with the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) and Sunni groups.
