Dr Karin von Hippel has been appointed as the new director-general of the UK’s Royal United Services Institute (Rusi), replacing Professor Michael Clarke, chairman and former UK foreign secretary William Hague has announced. She is presently chief of staff to US special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL General John Allen; before joining the US State Department in 2009, Von Hippel worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington and at King’s College, London.
