The UAE versus Turkey: a proxy war that is increasingly direct

Publicly, the UAE has been consistent in its line on the Libyan conflict – as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation (MFAIC) put it on 30 April, with a “commitment to achieving a political solution in Libya and call[ing] for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire”. However, it also “commended the Libyan National Army [rebranded by Field Marshall Khalifa Haftar as the LAAF] for conducting anti-terror operations and its steadfast pursuit of stability by way of confronting extremist and terrorist militias in the country.”
