Tanzania: Woodside back in Africa

Woodside Petroleum has made a decisive return to Africa with a second acquisition in less than two weeks, farming into Beach Energy’s Lake Tanganyika South Block in western Tanzania. Woodside will take 70% in the block, where Beach signed a production-sharing agreement in June 2010. A 2D seismic survey over the lake was completed in August 2012, using a converted ferry. Beach said the survey had identified 18 “high potential” prospects and leads. Woodside said the proposed work programme for the licence included seismic studies, with an option for future drilling and operatorship
