Tanzania: Tanesco approves Mbeya coal scheme for export market

Issue 391 - 03 May 2019 | 1 minute read

Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) has given Kibo Energy the go-ahead to develop the Mbeya coal-to-power project to supply the export market. The decision comes after AIM-listed Kibo was dropped in February from a tender to supply 600MW for domestic use. The plant will be situated next to the Rukwa coal mine owned by Kibo in the Songwe region of south-west Tanzania close to the border with Zambia.
