Tanzania: Dry wells

Issue 338 - 20 Jan 2017 | 1 minute read

Operator Shell has drilled two commitment wells offshore Tanzania but failed to find hydrocarbons. Partner Ophir Energy said the Kitatange-1 well in Block 1 and Bunju-1 well in Block 4 encountered good-quality reservoir, but hydrocarbons were not found. The Noble Globetrotter 2 rig has been demobilised from site. The two wells fulfil the final exploration commitments under the exploration licences issued by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. Following the completion of Kitatange- 1, a bridging licence has been awarded for the existing discovery locations in Block 1, which include Mzia, Jodari and Chaza.
