Tanker traffic concerns rise as incidents mount up

Concerns about the safety of oil tankers passing through the Gulf continue to rise amid claims of Iranian attempts to divert one UK tanker and another ship going missing for several days before turning up in Iranian waters.The UK said on 11 July that a Royal Navy warship was used to ward off three Iranian boats that had attempted to intercept the BP-owned British Heritage. That incident followed the seizure in Gibraltar of the Grace One tanker earlier in the month; the vessel was said to be carrying Iranian crude en route to Syria – which Tehran has denied.
