Another problem for energy planners in Algeria is that some proposed projects – even those essential for the long-term sustainability of gas reserves – may not be commercial. This may help to explain the lengthy and unexplained delays in progressing the complex series of exploration, development and infrastructure projects which together amount to a potential new gas production zone in the south-west.
