The Odfjell Deepsea Stavanger semi-submersible rig is on its way from Norway to South Africa for a drilling programme on Block 11B/12B, starting with the Luiperd-1 well. The closely watched well is due to spud “by September”, according to block partner Africa Energy Corporation. The Deepsea Stavanger drilled the basin-opening Brulpadda oil and gas discovery on Block 11B/12B in February 2019. “Luiperd is the largest prospect in the Paddavissie Fairway and has been de-risked by the nearby Brulpadda discovery and subsequent 3D seismic work,” said Africa Energy chief executive Garrett Soden.
