South Africa: RFI for risk mitigation procurement
Issue 406
- 19 Dec 2019
| 1 minute read
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has issued a request for information (RFI) for a risk mitigation power purchase programme. The government is attempting to reduce the use of expensive diesel generation as it battles to save Eskom from complete collapse, and the programme will procure 2-3GW of capacity from power generation facilities with short lead times to first power. The RFI is looking primarily at projects that are already under development, are baseload, peaking or mid-merit and are either dispatchable or self-dispatchable.
