The South African government has made a statement of intent with the secondment of Transnet CEO Brian Molefe to Eskom as interim CEO, a move that has been welcomed within the industry after a tumultuous few weeks that has seen four executives suspended and the resignation of the chairman. Molefe’s appointment is widely believed to signal the end of the road for serving CEO Tshediso Matona. “Mr Matona’s suspension is lifted in three months’ time but I would like [Molefe], for the next full year, to work in turning around Eskom, and if that means working with Mr Matona in three months time we’ll find another title for him,” said public enterprises minister Lynne Brown.
