South Africa: Eskom refutes coal contract claims

The cost and procurement of coal has been under the spotlight again as Eskom threatened to report City Press to the press ombudsman over a story about a coal supply contract for the 2,100MW Arnot coal power plant awarded to Tegeta Exploration and Resources. The amount Eskom pays for coal has been increasingly scrutinised as the company’s financial situation has worsened. It is also at the centre of allegations over President Jacob Zuma’s relations with the Gupta family.
