Solar FIT programme revives as Egypt heads to power surplus

After an awkward period in the latter part of 2016 when many potential investors threatened to walk away, Egypt’s renewables programme is partly back on track. The commitment of Norway’s Scatec Solar – one of the largest players in the sector – to six projects in the second round of the solar feed-in tariff (FIT) programme suggests the government has got away with its decision to virtually scrap the first round and to issue revised terms including a lower price.
