Adding to the perception that UAE authorities are taking a harder line against groups that could spawn dissent are reports that dozens – some sources say thousands – of Shia Muslims have been deported, in many cases having to leave behind their possessions. Shiite news portal The Shia Post has reported long-term immigrants being told to leave the UAE within 24 hours; a Pakistani migrant was given 12 hours to evacuate all his business and residential property in Dubai, while long-term Lebanese Shiite residents were expelled due to their presumed affiliation with Hizbollah.
