Saudi Arabia went ahead with the execution of seven young men accused of armed robbery on 13 March, despite international appeals for a retrial. Some of the men, who were found guilty of robbing a jewellery store in Asir in 2006, were teenagers at the time of the crime; the Ministry of Interior issued a statement saying the death penalty had taken place in the city of Abha, in the south-western province of Asir.
