Senegal: Africa50 backs Malicounda thermal plant

The Africa50 infrastructure fund has signed an agreement with state power utility Senelec to develop a 120MW combined-cycle thermal power plant at Malicounda. The two institutions will work together to secure financing and supervise construction and operation of the plant.The plant will initially run on fuel oil, but can be converted to natural gas if this becomes available from recently discovered gas fields offshore.
