Saudi defence trade fair highlights capabilities and political pragmatism

Against the backdrop of a major reshuffle of senior defence officials, Riyadh hosted the Armed Forces Exhibition for Diversity of Requirements and Capabilities on 25 February-3 March. It was a chance for Saudi firms to showcase their ability to meet local defence requirements – which they are proving ever more adept at.Turkey was designated the guest of honour at the exhibition, which drew some comment in the kingdom, given Ankara’s key role in supporting Qatar in its diplomatic stand-off with Riyadh and its allies.
