Saudi consumer spending hits buffers

Consumer spending appears to be on the slide in the face of the government’s austerity drive, rising inflation and cuts to subsidies. Household consumption grew by 6.7% in 2015, according to Capital Economics, helped by a bonus paid to public sector workers when King Salman Bin Abdelaziz came to the throne.
