Saudi Arabia and Spain inch closer to warships deal

After years of discussions a €2bn ($2.2bn) contract to sell five Spanish Avante 2200 corvettes to Saudi Arabia has yet to be formally confirmed, but sources have told GSN that shipbuilder Navantia “has been behaving as if the deal is going ahead”. This, indicates that some assurances have been given that the deal will finally see the light on day. It would be the largest defence deal to date between Spain and Saudi Arabia.Delays appear to have been caused by issues within and between the countries’ royal families.
