The report by UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions Agnes Callamard on the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, released on 19 June, wastes no time getting to the point. In its opening sentence, Callamard writes that Khashoggi’s death “constituted an extrajudicial killing for which the state of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is responsible”. As to who should be held accountable, Callamard says there is “credible evidence, warranting further investigation, of high-level Saudi officials’ individual liability, including the crown prince” Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS).
