The more muscular Saudi approach, underlined by criticism of the bombing campaign in Yemen, is causing concern elsewhere. The European Parliament called for a European Union arms embargo against Saudi Arabia on 25 February, in a motion passing by 359 votes to 212. UK Richard Howitt (representing Essex South), who proposed the motion, said it was “a clear humanitarian appeal to end the bloodshed in Yemen”. The Labour Party MEP called on Saudi Arabia “to pursue a political rather than a military solution to the conflict”.
