Saudi Arabia: Princes count cost of utility bill protest

Eleven princes were arrested on 4 January at Qasr Al-Hokm Palace, after objecting to a royal order that ended the long-standing practice of the government paying their water and electricity bills. The move sent further shivers around Al-Saud factions alienated by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS)’s hands-on rule, but GSN’s on-the-ground soundings suggest he has scored another popular success by forcing princes to pay utility bills.
