Saudi Arabia: MBS’s launches potential new military-industrial giant

Riyadh has put some flesh on the bones of its ambitions to boost its domestic military manufacturing industry, as laid out in its Vision 2030 strategy with the establishment of a new state-owned military industries company, Saudi Arabian Military Industries (Sami). Sami, announced on 17 May by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), featured prominently during President Donald Trump’s 20 May visit to Riyadh (see previous story); it is intended to become one of the world’s 25 largest defence companies by 2030, with forecast output of SR14bn ($3.7bn) by that date.
