Saudi Arabia is preparing for another very limited experiment in democracy, with elections due to be held to the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI)’s board of directors on 24 March. Some 109 candidates originally entered the race for the 12 elected seats on the board (another six are appointed by commerce and investment minister Majid Bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi), although 17 pulled out ahead of polling day.
