Saudi Arabia: First Moscow trip represents historic thaw with big deals

King Salman Bin Abdelaziz travelled to Moscow on 5 October, paying the first visit to Russia by a reigning Saudi monarch following decades of antipathy. The king visited at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, after the two sides have come to appreciate the other as partners in lifting oil prices. Moscow locals said the initiative stemmed from a burgeoing relationship between Putin and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman – although MBS stayed home to mind the shop.
