Saudi Arabia: Basmah Bint Saud makes dramatic plea for release from prison

Princess Basmah Bint Saud Bin Abdelaziz Al-Saud has said she is being held without charge along with one of her daughters at a maximum-security facility south of Riyadh. The princess – who is closely associated with human rights issues – made her claims in a series of Twitter posts on 15 April, which have since been deleted. Basmah appears to have been detained shortly before a planned trip to Switzerland early last year; the visit was reportedly to be made for medical reasons.
