Saudi Arabia: Al-Jubeir takes on foreign affairs

It has been clear for some time that Saudi Arabia’s well-respected and highly experienced foreign minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal has wanted to step down from a role he held for a remarkable four decades. The royal decree announcing his departure said he had requested to leave the ministry for health reasons; he is known to have problems with his back (most recently necessitating surgery in January), and there have long been unconfirmed rumours he is affected by Parkinson’s disease.
