British foreign secretary Philip Hammond arrived in Riyadh on 22 March for a series of meetings with senior Al-Saud. With an election on the horizon in Britain, one source said Hammond was hoping to push ahead with further military sales to the Saudis; while in the kingdom he had separate meetings with King Salman, defence minister Mohammed Bin Salman (MBS), Deputy Crown Prince, Mohammed Bin Nayef (MBN), and Crown Prince Miqrin, as well as talks with his counterpart, foreign minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal. Prince Saud and Hammond gave a joint press conference in which they stressed historical relations.
