San Leon drills onshore Western Sahara

Issue 307 - 11 Sep 2015 | 1 minute read

Potential bid target San Leon Energy has spudded the El Aaiun-4 well on the onshore Tarfaya licence in the disputed Western Sahara. The well, which started drilling on 21 August, is using Entrepose Drilling’s Cabot 750 rig and is expected to take about 30 days to reach total depth of around 2,000 metres. The reservoir target is Tertiary channel sandstones, and the surface location is 14km from a potential gas market, the El Marsa phosphate processing plant near Foum el-Oued, owned by the Moroccan state Office Cherifien des Phosphates.
