Riyadh rejects Tehran overtures

The idea of a thaw in relations with Iran was dismissed by Saudi foreign minister Adel Al-Jubair on 5 September. Officials in Tehran had said the two countries had agreed to send diplomatic teams to each other’s capital after Eid Al-Adha, in theory to simply check up on their embassy buildings. Even that would be a significant move given the countries have no formal diplomatic ties at the moment.
