Bahrain/Region: Neighbours come to the rescue again with $10bn package

A long-mooted aid package for the beleaguered Bahraini economy was finally confirmed on 4 October, when Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE stepped in with a $10bn programme designed to stabilise Bahrain’s fiscal position. Manama was first promised support by its richer neighbours in June, but negotiations appeared to become drawn out because of the insistence by Abu Dhabi and Riyadh that certain conditions were attached to any bail-out.
